Gboard Updates New Dynamic Color, Makes Your Keyboard Simpler

After testing since last year, Google has officially released the Dynamic Color update for Gboard, which will further enhance the prominence of the Android keyboard.

The main change is to adjust the colors of the buttons in the Dynamic Color theme to be more consistent. Previously, the buttons had different colors, such as the letter buttons, Shift, Emoji/Comma, Period, and Backspace buttons, the ?123 button, and the Enter button.

Now, the Shift, Emoji/Comma, Period, Backspace, ?123, and Enter buttons in the lower right corner, as well as the 2×2 grid icon in the upper left corner (used to access various functions), are all the same color. This change affects both mobile phones and tablets.

This change makes the keyboard look simpler and more consistent. However, the Dynamic Color colors may not be as vibrant, depending on the wallpaper used, and the black theme looks darker.

This update has been rolling out to Gboard beta and stable users since late October, and as of today (Gboard version 14.9), the Dynamic Color update has been widely rolled out to both stable and beta channels. If you still don’t see this change, try going into your Gboard settings and pressing “Force Stop” from your app info. Toggling between the system’s light and dark themes may also trigger the change.

Additionally, Gboard beta users will receive an updated 2×2 icon, where the colored icon will no longer appear in a circle, making it asymmetrical to the voice search button.
