Japanese company Honda Motor plans to launch a small electric car priced below $30,000 (about 1 million baht) in North America, possibly as early as 2026. What’s interesting about this model? Let’s take a look together.

Honda 0 Series, a 100% electric car (EV) priced below $30,000 that will begin marketing in North America. This price aims to compete with gasoline-powered cars, while former President Trump’s policy to promote the use of electric vehicles has been canceled.

The move is part of Honda’s strategy to expand its presence in the battery-powered vehicle market, with the Honda 0 Series expected to be shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month.

Production of both vehicles is set to begin at American Honda Motor Company’s Ohio plant.

The Honda 0 SUV is set to roll off the production line first, with a North American launch scheduled for the first half of 2026, followed by a global rollout.

Honda is currently a relatively latecomer to the EV race, lagging behind companies in the US, Europe and China such as Tesla, Volkswagen and BYD.

However, Honda has set a goal for battery and fuel cell vehicles to account for 100% of new vehicle sales by 2040.

Earlier this month, American Honda Motor Company forecast that vehicle sales would rise 6% to 1.51 million units by 2025, after rising 9% to an estimated 1.42 million units in 2024.

The company attributed last year’s sales increase to “easing of production restrictions” that facilitated continued supply to dealers.

The Honda CR-V mid-size SUV became the best-selling model last year, with 402,791 units sold, half of which were ‘hybrids’.
