Google announced a major update to Google Maps, adding new AI-powered features like Gemini to help users plan trips, navigate, and explore places more easily.
Key features of this update
- Gemini helps plan activities: Users can now ask for ideas for places to visit and things to do in Google Maps. Gemini will help plan activities, summarize user reviews, and answer questions about a place, such as whether it has outdoor seating or is quiet.
- Intelligent navigation: Add “Add stops” to along the way, such as landmarks, attractions, and restaurants, with clear lane markings, crosswalks, and traffic signs, and alerts about the correct lane for turning or exiting a freeway. Users can also report weather or road events to alert other users.
- Find parking: Google Maps will alert you when you are near your destination, and show you walking directions from your car to the entrance, using Street View or AR.
Immersive View: We’ve expanded the Immersive View experience to 150 cities worldwide and added new types of places like universities, and Immersive View for routes, which helps with parking suggestions and highlights complex routes. Google has also updated its popular navigation app, Waze, with new features like voice-activated road incident reporting and the ability to display school zones on the map.
Anyone who is using Google Maps, don’t forget to update and try using it.
