Samsung is considering ending the Galaxy brand on its premium smartphones, which includes the S and Z series smartphones. The move is aimed at emphasizing the premium image of Samsung’s high-end devices.

According to a report by South Korean news outlet E-Today, South Korean tech giant Samsung is considering ending the decades-old “Galaxy” brand on its high-end devices, which is likely to include devices in the S and Z series.

The main reason for discontinuing the Galaxy brand is that Samsung wants to create a new image that shows the premiumness of the brand’s high-end devices, with the main goal of increasing the opportunity to compete with Apple and Google, which focus on producing quality devices rather than quantity.

Currently, Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have many series, ranging from the high-end S and Z, and there are also sub-series A, M and F, which are mid-range and low-end smartphone series.

E-Today further reported that Samsung feels that the Galaxy brand covering all devices makes premium devices less prominent, especially among the new generation of customers are teenagers.

Samsung has started talking about phasing out the Galaxy brand in the high-end smartphone segment as early as 2024. Another possible approach is to create a sub-brand specifically for high-end smartphones, similar to Hyundai’s car brand, which has a sub-brand for luxury cars called Genesis.

Inside sources in the telecommunications industry commented that the change to add a new brand name for Samsung would increase marketing costs.

As for the premium Galaxy S25 smartphones, which are set to launch in early January 2025, it is expected that the Galaxy brand will continue, but later products such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 may be under the new brand.
