X announces the launch of vertical video features, aiming to capture the video market, which is a trend that consumers are increasingly interested in.
The X account @X posted on January 20, US local time, stating that we are launching a “new home for video” that will provide a more immersive viewing experience for users in the United States starting today. X users can access video content faster through a new tab that appears on the app’s homepage.
The arrival of vertical video by X is a result of the need to capture the share of vertical video viewing, which is one of the current video viewing trends.
Previously, X allowed users to watch videos by tapping play from the feed and swiping up to continue watching, but this is the first time the platform has created a dedicated tab for videos.
X has also experimented with video before, launching a dedicated TV app last year to allow users to watch content from a variety of creators.
X’s move reflects the fact that both giants and new players are filling the void, particularly during the chaotic times when TikTok was banned and temporarily lifted in the US, and X has been building its own ecosystem.
While it may have had a short-lived chance to grab TikTok’s user base, X has already reignited the vertical video competition in the social media space.
